Whanau from East Side Rotorua came together for a mahi kai wananga at Omaramutu marae in Opotiki over the last weekend of the 2018/2019 school holidays.
The wananga was identified by the hard to reach whanau at previous workshops as an opportunity to strengthen bonding with their children, teach them seafood gathering and water safety skills, and give them knowledge about the local area.
Over two dozen whanau attended the wananga and engaged in activities including eeling, shellfish gathering, swimming, fishing, diving and horseriding.
The wananga was supported by the Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust and Mokoia Community Association.
